Kohl's was founded in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1962 by the Kohl family. This proved to be the birth of a department store chain that would appeal to the value-oriented customer. By providing more fashionable apparel than the typical discount retailer and better prices than the typical department store, Kohl's succeeded in attracting the value-oriented department store customers. Kohl's Department Stores quickly developed a reputation for attractive stores, good values and a wide variety of choices for the customer.

In 1978, the Kohl Corporation became wholly owned by the BATUS Retail Group, a subsidiary of British-American Tobacco Company. While owned by BATUS, Kohl's expanded from 10 stores to 39 throughout Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana.

Kohl's was purchased in 1986 by a group of investors led by Kohl's senior management. In the spring of 1992, Kohl's offered 11.1 million shares of the Company's stock to the public in one of the largest initial public offerings by a Wisconsin company.

Today, with sales exceeding 14 billion dollars annually, Kohl's has more than 800 stores and plans to operate approximately 1200 stores by the end of fiscal 2010. Our Company's objective is to continue this tradition of growth.
